The information you can find about how to get snus in Australia all seem to be at least two years old. At least, that was the information I found when I desperately tried to find another way of getting it instead of ordering directly from Sweden.
There were some common suggestions, like that you can buy boxes at Nordic Fusion in Manly. Firstly, the store is now located close to the ferry. Secondly, you could buy snus there, but they stopped selling it two years ago.
The rules regarding snus in Australia have changed, which means that if you want snus, you need to order it from Sweden. The tax right now is $321 dollars per kilo. So if you order a ten pack you'll have to pay around 80 dollar in taxes. You will have to pay this tax when the snus reaches customs in Australia (they will send you a letter, and you can pay online).
But at least you can comfort yourself with that the actual price of the snus is tax free.
Also, you can't avoid the taxes buy having someone to send it over as a gift anymore unfortunately.
There is heaps of good sites to order from online. Just Google it and you'll get several alternatives.
Another common suggestion is that you might be able to buy it from the Swedish church in Sydney, but I don't have any information about that. I'm guessing that if it's possible, you probably can't get more than one box or so anyway.
I don't know anything about how it is in other cities in Australia besides Sydney though, but I would assume it's the same.

thanks a lot for this information. i used to bring it along with me or ask someone coming from india to bring it. i still recon that some indian stores in sydney sell them, but may not be the same which is sold in sweden but it is one of the best indian stuff out there.

ReplyDeleteIf you dont order to much at a time there is no tax because its under the import limit. I order 3 tins every week and have no problems. I use buysnus.com It costs me a bout 17AUD including postage. It takes about 10 days sometimes less. Cant go past General!!

You can import 250g for personal use per person over 15 (or so) years of age. I usually have a stock in my luggage and stuff as much as I can on my person :) Good luck

ReplyDeleteI can confirm with the previous post that ordering no more than 5 rolls/cans from the site Northerner never brings me any trouble with the Aussie customs. I live in Melbourne and I generally put in one bulk order per month and generally arrives within 10 days.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I can confirm the above. Live is Brisbane and as long as ordering 5 tins or less, no customs charge. Don't make the mistake of express shipping though, not only is it SUPER expensive, that's when you will get a phonecall asking to pay import tax. Swedish post ONLY.

ReplyDeleteFrom Sep 2012, The Aust Government will apply a tax duty rate of $446.65 per kg of snus/snuff content. So if i order say five mini cans of Göteborgs Rapé Mini White Portion, there will be a duty tax of $26.06. There will send you a notice of assessment and you have the choice to either pay online and the content will be released or not pay and the content will be returned back to the sender.
ReplyDeleteI've been ordering snus fortnightly, usually 15 cans per order, to victoria. They usually send it divided up into 2 or 3 packages. I've never had mine intercepted by customs, and I've had no troubles whatsoever. Much cheaper than smoking. You have to be very unlucky to have your package intercepted. I have a mate who has also been ordering for 2/3 years, he's had his stopped once - one of the 3 packages. They asked for approx $70 tax, so ignored the letter and just made another order. Happy snusing everyone ;)

I've been ordering 4 to 5 cans from northerner for nearly 2 years now also and the other day got a tax payment request from Customs! Bastards!!! As i was low on stock and knowing shipping times would be delayed over christmas i just paid it and it came 2 days later. Paying $50 for 4 cans seems quite ridiculous but the cheapness of snus compared to cigarettes i am still well ahead in 24 months thats for sure!!

Gave up smoking, now i only use smokeless tobacco products and i feel great, my fittness has improved ten fold but the bloody government rapes my wallet! ReplyDeletelast two also stopped by customs, second lot was only 2 cans loose and they want 45 dollars. It's possible to switch over to nicotine gum to give up snuss. Much easier to give up then the smokes this way.

Now my last order, two cans of white portion, was shipped on September 1 2014 from Northerner. Usually my order arrives in less than 10 days, it has now been 18 and NOTHING, not even a letter from customs yet. Why do they take so long to send the stupid letters and release a PERISHABLE good that I have paid good money for, bloody bastards.
